What's On in Dallas

Expats in Dallas will have plenty of exciting events to look forward to throughout the year. Regardless of whether one is interested in food and wine, arts and culture or sports, there is sure to be an event that appeals to every type of resident in Dallas.
 
Here is a list of the main annual events in Dallas:
 

Martin Luther King Birthday Parade (January)

Each year residents from across the city head to downtown Dallas to view this colourful march through the streets which celebrates the life and achievements of the famous civil rights leader, Dr Martin Luther King Jr.
 

Savor Dallas (March)

Dallas has many annual events
A popular event with food enthusiasts, Savor Dallas is a real feast for the senses. The festival includes a stroll through the Arts District, cooking demos by celebrity chefs, wine tasting seminars and the International Grand Tasting with more than 500 wines and 50 top chefs serving samples of their signature dishes.  
 

Air Power Expo (April)

The Air Power Expo is a spectacular aerial acrobatics display put on by the U.S. Navy’s Blue Angels as part of Dallas-Forth Worth’s Navy Week. Local residents have the opportunity to meet sailors and Navy pilots, and learn more about their community projects.
 

Cinco de Mayo Big Parade and Festival (May)

Each year the streets of downtown Dallas become a hive of activity as thousands of visitors come to view the annual parade and cultural festival. The festival includes marching bands, performances by local school children and dance troupes, food stalls and specials at local restaurants.
 

Texas Scottish Festival and Highland Games (June)

A festival that celebrates Scottish culture with a kilted golf tournament, Scottish dance contests and athletics competitions. The action takes place at the University of Texas in Arlington’s Maverick Stadium.
 

BluesFest (October) 

This outdoor music event is held in the Dallas suburb of Bedford and showcases local blues talent along with a number of wholesome food stalls and art displays. BluesFest is free and a great event for the whole family.
 

Turkey Trot (November) 

Held each year on Thanksgiving morning, the annual Turkey Trot is a fun three mile (5km) run through the streets of Dallas. It is a popular festive event which has been running for around 40 years. 
 

Children's Christmas Parade (December)

Held during the first week in December, this parade includes fabulous floats and marching bands. There is a Christmas fair at the end where the little ones can visit Santa’s grotto, while parents can enjoy mulled wine and shop at the market.
