Chicago is a multicultural city with a variety of neighbourhoods to suit all kinds of expats. While there are many diverse areas and suburbs in Chicago to consider, the residential areas that expats will most likely be interested in lie largely to the north of the city.


Neighbourhoods in Chicago

Lakeview

Lakeview is home to a number of different communities, including families and young professionals.

Located about seven miles (11km) from the Loop, Lakeview also includes Wrigleyville and the Wrigley Field, home of the Chicago Cubs baseball team. It's also a buzzing nightlife destination with tons of restaurants and bars.

Close to the banks of Lake Michigan, Lakeview also offers outdoor activities such as a golf course, running and biking paths, and direct access to Lincoln Park. With streets lined with trees and small buildings, Lakeview is a beautiful place to live.

Lincoln Park

Lincoln Park is located close to Downtown Chicago. Families with children of all ages live in this neighbourhood and lots of expats choose this area because there are good public and private schools nearby.

Lincoln Park is a big garden in the middle of urban civilization and boasts a farm, Lincoln Park Zoo, and the shore of Lake Michigan, as well as running and biking trails and lots of playgrounds.

Evanston

Evanston is located to the north of Chicago and is the home of the private Northwestern University. The area attracts not only students but also families with children of all ages. It's a family-friendly residential neighbourhood with large, beautiful houses with gardens.

Logan Square

Logan Square is located midway between the O’Hare International Airport and Downtown. The population here is mostly composed of working-class people and there are diverse communities of foreigners. The area is also popular with students and artists.

Much of the population in this neighbourhood is attracted to it by the low rents. Most accommodation here is in the form of apartments.
