Markets in Dublin

Dublin flea market

Dublin is one of the oldest cities in Europe, with areas dating back as far as 988 AD. It was founded as a Viking trading outpost and signs of that mercantile past can still be seen today; there are open-air markets taking place almost every day of the week.

Expats need never miss their home food for too long as artisan stalls usually cater to every national food group possible. And in spite of the glam shopping streets everywhere, Dubliners still find time to browse in clothing markets too.

Cow’s Lane Designer Mart

Described as a fashionista’s paradise, this Saturday market is a showcase for Dublin’s young designers. Ireland's creatives turn up with clothes, boots, jewellery and ceramics.

Dublin Flea Market

This monthly market is the place to come armed with haggling skills and a tough skin, or sign up for a stall to sell things on before leaving Dublin. It takes place in Newmarket in Dublin 8, which will put visitors in the perfect vicinity for a walk around historic Smithfield while there.

Harcourt Street Market

This market is a Thursday outing with stalls selling jewellery and clothing as well as foodstuffs, and is a perfect place to grab lunch. There's always quite a variety of goods on sale, all of which is organic or handmade.

Howth Market

Combining a day by the sea with great food is the perfect way to spend a Sunday. This eclectic market serves up a mix of Lebanese desserts, crunchy calamari and plenty of fresh fruit and veg, not to mention the best crepes in town. Just remember to bring a jacket if visiting in winter, as the open-air market is right on the seafront.

Temple Bar Food Market

This market takes place every Saturday in Meeting House Square in the Temple Bar district, offering everything from fresh bread to locally made cheese to authentic Mexican food. This last item is hard to find even in the city’s many restaurants and sells out fast. The market fills up with locals and tourists alike so be sure to get there early. A book market takes place nearby on Saturday and Sunday afternoons with a mixture of second-hand and new books on offer.
