My questions are we have a 1 yrbold 3 yr old and 5 yr old, what age do they start nursery and school there and what is funded and not funded??? As well what's the best place to live to rent we have been looking at Katy?

Hi Liz,

When are you planning to move to Houston?

Children in Texas start kindergarten in the year that they will be 5 years old by September, but pre-K can be started as early as 3 years old. You will probably have to pay tuition fees. As for the best areas, this will likely be influenced by the area you work in and the school/s you choose. For some ideas, see the Expat Arrivals guide for Areas and Suburbs in Houston.

Liz,

Katy has a good public school system. Public schools here are available without tuition for kindergarten through 12th grade, sometimes pre-K programs are also available but that varies from school to school. Most of your questions can be answered by reviewing their website at http://katyisd.org.

The Houston Association of Realtors has a terrific site at www.har.com that will help narrow down a search for the right neighborhood to either buy or rent a home here.

Have you tried asking your husband's employer for assistance in finding the right neighborhood?
